The Tudor Dixon - Betsy DeVos - President Trump Connection and Conundrum

The day after January 6, Tudor Dixon, who is the Republican candidate for Governor in Michigan, used her platform as a host “Real America’s Voice” to claim that January 6th was not an insurrection but that “people on both sides” got caught up in emotion.

She even defended Ryan Kelley when he was arrested for his role in Jan 6.  Ryan Kelley was also a candidate in the Republican Primary for Governor in Michigan this year.

Dixon’s public defense of the January 6 attacks has put her complicated relationship with Trump’s former Education Secretary Betsy DeVos into the spotlight.

DeVos has been a major donor to Dixon’s campaign.  But unlike Dixon, DeVos publicly condemned the Jan 6 attack and President Trump’s role, resigning from President Trump’s Cabinet on January 7, 2021 in protest.

Sec. DeVos stated in her letter of resignation to President Trump:

“There is no mistaking the impact your rhetoric had on the situation, and it is the inflection point for me. Impressionable children are watching all of this, and they are learning from us.  I believe we each have a moral obligation to exercise good judgment and model the behavior we hope they would emulate.  They must know from us that America is greater than what transpired yesterday.”

Before resigning, Secretary DeVos was one of the Trump cabinet members that reportedly spoke with Vice President Pence about invoking the 25th Amendment, which would have removed President Trump from office.

Betsy DeVos is in talks with the January 6th Committee about providing testimony and cooperating with the committee’s investigation into the Trump administration’s role. Tudor Dixon, on the other hand, used “Real American’s Voice” to continue to support Steve Bannon after he was removed by most mainstream platforms for his promotion of Russian disinformation and defrauding donors to the non-profit he started around Trump’s wall.

Former Republican GOP chair stated last month that DeVos cooperation with the Jan 6 Committee will likely hurt Dixon’s chances, saying “Part of the objection many Republican voters had to Tudor Dixon was Betsy DeVos support.”
