The House Select Committee on January 6th held its first public hearing on Thursday, June 9th to lay out the facts about the attack on the Capitol.

 

In never-before-seen footage of the riot, viewers saw scenes of rioters attacking police officers. 

 

Witnesses testified that the attack on the Capitol was not an accident. It was a coordinated operation.

• Police Officer Caroline Edwards testified that rioters knocked her unconscious and described January 6th as a “war scene.”

  • “It was carnage. It was chaos,” she said. “It was just hours of hand-to-hand combat, hours of dealing with things that were way beyond any law enforcement officer has ever trained for.”

• Ivanka Trump said she respected Attorney General Bill Barr and accepted his assessment that there was no widespread voter fraud and that her father, Donald Trump, had lost the election.

• Multiple GOP members of Congress, including Scott Perry, asked Donald Trump for pardons for their role in January 6th.

• Proud Boys testified their membership tripled after Trump asked them to "Stand by" during a Presidential debate.

​

• Documentary Filmmaker Nick Quested testified he saw Proud Boys Leader Enrique Tarrio meet with Oath Keepers Leader Stewart Rhodes in a DC parking garage the day before the insurrection.

• Numerous rioters said they attacked the Capitol because Trump asked them to.
