  • The Committee showed evidence of former President Trump pushing to overturn the 2020 election even after privately admitting that he lost the election. 

The House Select Committee on January 6th held its ninth public hearing on Thursday, October 13th to review evidence of how former President Trump pushed to overturn the 2020 election even after privately accepting the results.

The Committee voted to subpoena former President Trump.

Top Moments

  • Cheney said the committee “may ultimately decide” to make a series of committee referrals to the Justice Department but stressed it is not the panel’s job to prosecute. The committee voted to subpoena Trump at the end of the hearing.

  • Roger Stone and Steve Bannon said that it was always the Trump campaign’s strategy to declare victory after the 2020 election, whether or not Trump won.

    • ​“F*ck the voting. Let’s get right to the violence,” Stone said. 

    • Roger Stone argued “Possession is nine tenths of the law.” 
       

  • The committee presented evidence that Trump, just a few days after being declared the loser of the election, signed orders to immediately withdraw troops from Afghanistan and Somalia — evidence that he knew his term was going to end.

  • The Secret Service was aware of the weapons possessed by people in the crowds around Trump’s Stop the Steal rally as early as the evening of January 5th, 2020. They chose not to act on that information.

  • Trump fanned the flames of anger in the crowd against VP Mike Pence to pressure him to halt the certification of the election. ​
