Ohio Senator JD Vance, Donald Trump’s vice presidential pick, campaigned on the Saturday prior to the vice presidential debate at a town hall outside Pittsburgh. This event was organized by Lance Wallnau, a pastor and self-proclaimed “apostle” who was at the U.S. Capitol during the riot on January 6, 2021. Vance joined the event for over an hour for a town hall discussion.
Wallnau spread election disinformation in 2020. He also helped mobilize rioters at the Capitol and was at the scene of the insurrection on January 6. The rioters that attacked the U.S. Capitol injured over 100 police officers and killed 5 officers.
During the vice presidential debate that followed, Vance continued to downplay both the false narratives about the 2020 election that led to January 6, and the violence and loss of human life that occurred on that day.
