Augustus Sol Invictus: The Blood Drinking White Nationalist Lawyer Behind the Proud Boys Lawsuit

Augustus Sol Invictus is the lawyer representing the Proud Boys in a $100M lawsuit against the federal government. He seeks to recast 6 convicted rioters as victims of political persecution. He has partnered with alt-right election denier Thomas Ranieri as his Co-Counsel.

Augustus is:

  • An animal-sacrificing and blood drinking neo-nazi who was an organizer and headline speaker at the “Unite the Right Rally”

  • Arrested for domestic abuse and armed kidnapping and sexual assault

  • A member of the ‘military wing’ of the Proud Boys who has called for violent insurrection against the US.

  • Convicted for racially motivated violence at Charlottesville

Who is he?

Augustus Sol Invictus legally changed his name in 2006 from Austin Mitchell Gillespie to the Latin phrase meaning “majestic unconquered sun.”

Self-Proclaimed Prophet:  Invictus has described himself as "a prophet destined to lead his followers in a coming great war," stating: "I have prophesied for years that I was born for a Great War; that if I did not witness the coming of the Second American Civil War I would begin it myself."

Occult Practices and Extreme Behavior

Animal Sacrifice: During a self-described spiritual pilgrimage in 2013, Invictus killed a goat and drank its blood as a ritual offering to a "wilderness god."

Renounced his own citizenship: In 2013, Invictus declared in a memo that he had renounced U.S. citizenship, his law license, and worldly possessions, though it has not been documented that he followed through with his departure from the country.

Calls for Violent Revolution Against the US Government

Called for Insurrection, Use of LSD and Practice of Sorcery during 2016 Libertarian Senate Campaign: In a speech titled “A Call for Total Insurrection”, Invictus wrote:

“I do not want you to vote, so much as I want you to wake up. I want you to drop out and tune in. I want you to take LSD and practice sorcery. I want you to listen to trap music and black metal, to learn the law and to break it deliberately, to find your own religion. I want you to learn the use of firearms and subject yourselves to rigorous physical training.”

Invictus has repeatedly called for violent revolution against the United States Government:

"I do not want you to submit. I want you to revolt. I want you to be total insurrectionists - in mind, in body, in spirit, and in heart. I want you to be dangerous, so that the system takes notice of you and turns its machines toward your destruction. I want each and every one of you to be a legitimate threat."

Invictus ran for Senate in Florida as a Libertarian in 2016. His candidacy was so controversial that it caused the chair of Florida's Libertarian Party to resign in protest. The chair, Wylie, stated:

"Mr. Invictus has repeatedly vowed that it is his destiny to start a second civil war in America. He has described himself as an American Fascist. He has expressed support for a eugenics program. Many of his supporters are known members of Neo-Nazi and white supremacist groups."

White Nationalist Leadership

Headline Speaker and Organizer of Unite the Right Rally
Invictus was a headline speaker and organizer at the violent 2017 "Unite the Right" rally in Charlottesville, Virginia. He was credited by organizers like Richard Spencer as a core ideologue behind the "Charlottesville Statement," which included explicitly white nationalist tenets. For example:

"Whites alone defined America as a European society and political order.”

Fraternal Order of Alt-Knights
Invictus is a member of the Fraternal Order of Alt-Knights (FOAK), described as the 'military wing' of the Proud Boys.

Holocaust Denier
In a 2017 interview, Invictus revealed his Holocaust denial: "Do I believe that 6 million Jews were killed by evil Hitler? Is that what you're asking me? Okay, then I am still waiting to see those facts."

Legal Representation for Neo-Nazis

As an attorney, Invictus previously represented Marcus Faella, the head of the neo-Nazi group American Front, in an appeal of his conviction on domestic terrorism.
